So we sold it on Autotrader (www.autotrader.com). They told us what it was worth, how much to ask, and what to say in the ad. Then they published it everywhere (they keep your info private until you reveal it to the buyer) and we sold it painlessly.
No more insurance, garage or repair bills, so we're using the money for more important things like having fun. You'd be surprised how reasonable a comfortable air-conditioned New Jersey Transit bus is for a trip to Atlantic City ($16 each way for seniors 62+). When you get there, walk the boardwalk, swim in the ocean and eat. If you don't gamble, this will be a very reasonable trip. Do take a moment, however, to pay your respects to the gods at Caesar's Palace and try to stop laughing.
And then there's Zipcar (www.zipcar.com). For about $9/hour during the week, you can rent it for short hops. I found our rental at a nearby garage. It's fast cheap and easy. For a trip to the outlets, get a 1/2 price bus coupon on Goldstar (www.goldstar.com) and shop shop shop.
By the way, you can also get 1/2 price Yankee and Mets tickets on Goldstar plus many little jaunts around our town. Better yet, try their minor league teams in Staten Island and Brooklyn; you can see the Staten Island Yankees for $22/pp .(statenislandusa.com)
For a cool harbor trip with great views of the city, take the 1 train to South Ferry, then ride the Staten Island Ferry for free.
Or, take a trip into your past. Take the D, F, N or Q train to the last stop, Coney Island, and head for the parachute jump. The ball Park sits just under it and near--the Cyclone. On Wednesdays, all seats are $10. (forum.skyscraperpage.com)
Ever wanted to sit behind home plate? you can do it here. Maybe you will spot the next Mo on the mound.
